CHRISTMAS CHEER SUNDAY

December 9th after both 9:30 and 11:00 am masses

Come down and enjoy coffee, tea and something good to eat. We’ll sing a carol or two and the kids can make a holiday craft. If Santa’s not too busy, he’ll be visiting too! This is a “free” event. However, we would REALLY appreciate baked goods donations – cookies, muffins, cakes – would be fabulous.

Also, we need HELPERS to assist. Please mark that column on the sign up sheets available in vestibule. Thanks for helping us put on another very fun event.
Social Committee

The St. Vincent de Paul Society - Canned Food Drive

collected 17,500 items from Households. Thank you for your support.

Tax-saving alert!

BCE (Bell Canada), one of Canada's premier telecommunications companies, has announced that they have accepted a take-over bid and will soon become a private company. All common shareholders will be required to sell or donate their BCE securities and will face a large tax bill because of the greatly appreciated value of their stock. Many people purchased shares years ago when shares were worth as little as $6.00 per share. For example, at a value of $41.00 per share based on a cost of $6.00, the individual realize a $35.00 gain and be forced to pay $7.70 per share in capital gains taxes. By donating your shares to our parish, OLPH, you can avoid the taxes on gains, dividend reinvestments and stock splits and spin-offs. Please consider using this opportunity to save in 2007 as the deadline to sell is early 2008.

Please call Paul Nazareth, Manager of Planned Giving and Major Gifts at the Archdiocese 416.934-3400, ext. 561 to hear how parishioners are taking advantage of this one time event. Please share this message with other Catholics you know!

New Priest in Residence

I want to welcome Fr. Matthew Ugochukwu Ihuoma to OLPH. Fr. Matthew is originally from Nigeria but is serving in a parish in the diocese of McKenzie/Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories. (How he got way up there I can’t imagine but I guess I will find out when he gets here). He will be arriving in Toronto on December 3rd. He will be staying at OLPH until the end of January. He is coming to do a two month internship in psychotherapy. While he will be primarily focused on his educational goals during the week, he will assist us in the parish on the weekend. I want to welcome Fr. Matthew to our parish community.
