The Baptism of the Lord

As John the Baptist introduced the people of his time to Jesus and a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” Perhaps God is calling you to do the same in our time as a priest, deacon, or religious. If God is calling you, call Fr. Liborio Amaral 416-968-0997 or email vocations@vocations.ca or www.vocationstoronto.ca

BAPTISM PREPARATION SESSION

All parents wanting to have their child Baptized in the upcoming months must have an interview with Karen Corcoran, Lay Pastoral Associate before each Baptism Preparation Session. Please note that the Baptism Date must be confirmed with Karen BEFORE you make arrangements for family and friends to attend. Monthly baptisms are on a first come first served basis.

The next Baptism Preparation Session will be Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm in the Library.

The upcoming Baptism dates are: Jan. 27 at 11:00 am,
February 17 at 4:00 pm and March 29 at 5:00 pm

SAVE THIS DATE IN 2008 - SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd

Annual Fund-Raising Gala Dinner with Special Guest JOHN McDERMOTT in Support of Four Winds Boys Camp (formerly Columbus Boys’ Camp) is a member agency of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto) Le Parc Markham.

Tickets for this exciting evening are $150.00 per person and may be ordered by calling the camp office at (647) 271-4405. The gala will feature a sumptuous dinner and silent auction. All proceeds will directly benefit FOUR WINDS BOYS CAMP, a place where boys experience a one-week vacation in the great outdoors away from the challenges of their home environment.

OLPH PARISHIONERS

We would greatly appreciate it if parishioners would not use Sunday Envelopes from PREVIOUS YEARS as that number may be assigned to someone else (especially if you did not pick up envelopes every year) then your donation could end up in another parishioner’s account.

The envelopes have a different colour each year in order to distinguish them from the previous year. If you have not used envelopes in a couple of years, you can either use Visitor’s Envelopes (found at each entrance of the church) or you can call the office and request Sunday Envelopes for the current year. Thank you for your assistance.

Have you moved or are you moving?

If you are registered with OLPH, please don’t forget to notify the office of your new address so we can mail your income tax receipt if you are not in this parish anymore. You can call 416-489-1540 ext 221 or email office@olphtoronto.com Also, we have a couple of bundles of corrugated boxes from our move if anyone is interested in purchasing them for a move or storage.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY - Pulpit Exchange for Jan. 19-20

Next Weekend we begin the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. As a member of the Churches on-the-Hill we will be participating in the Pulpit Exchange. I will be going to Christ Church Deer Park Anglican and Rev. Andrew Stirling, the senior minister of Timothy Eaton United Church will be coming here. He will be preaching at both the 9:30 and the 11:00 a.m. Masses. With him will be Margaret Bird who is a member of Timothy Eaton.

Andrew was born in the United Kingdom and received his education in England, Bermuda, Canada and South Africa. He is married to Marial, who is a Lawyer and Chartered Accountant.

In 1997 Andrew was a nominee for Moderator of the United Church of Canada.

He has been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University Divinity School and was a founding faculty member of Augustine College in Ottawa. He has written two books: What’s Good About The Good News? and The Christian Imperative, is the Editor of The Trinity: An Essential For Faith In Our Time and has written over 50 theological and devotional articles. He teaches Church History at the School of Continuing Studies at the University of Toronto and is an Adjunct Professor of Theology at Tyndale University Seminary and has taught Homiletics at Emmanuel College.

Please welcome both Andrew and Margaret warmly when they come next weekend.
