Screening Committee
Overview
The Screening Committee screens parishioners engaged in high and medium risk ministry positions and those responsible for the coordination of parish ministries. This committee will ensure that all reports and documents are given to the Parish Volunteer Screening Coordinator.
Mandatory Activities/Responsibilities
- Determine the level of risk of the ministry positions in the parish
- Work with coordinators or each specific ministry to develop ministry position descriptions
- Ensure that Ministry Covenant Forms have been completed by all persons involved in ministry in the parish no matter what the risk level
- Screen all high and medium risk ministry positions.
- interview those involved in these ministries
- ensure that references are in order
- ensure that police reference checks are obtained for those in high risk ministries
- attend training sessions conducted by the Office of Lay Ministry and Chaplaincy
- ensure that all files related to screening are managed appropriately

- Members must be practicing Catholics
- They must be active members of this parish
- Must have the ability to keep information strictly confidential
- Must be able to work as a team
- Must be able to interview and assess competence for the ministry for which the person is applying

Orientation and Training
- Training sessions facilitated by the Office of Lay Ministry and Chaplaincy
Participant Group
- All parishioners active in any ministry within the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Support, Supervision and Evaluation
- The committee is directly responsible to the pastor
- Support and Supervision will come first from the other members of the committee and then from the pastor
- Support is also available through the Office of Lay Ministry and Chaplaincy
- Evaluation will be completed by the pastor at the end of each person term on the committee
Length of Ministry Appointment
- The term is two years with the possibility of being renewed
Benefits and Working Conditions
- Committee members must be able to attend the training sessions
- They must also be able to attend committee meetings which are to be scheduled at mutually convenient times
- Must be willing and able to participate in the interviewing process for parishioners in medium and high risk ministries
- The committee members will get to know the members of the parish in a much more personal manner
- They will come to know the workings of the various ministries of the parish in more depth
- They will obtain a broader and deeper understanding of the needs and functioning of the parish as a whole
Screening Measures
- This is a medium risk position
- Screening required includes:
- completion of the Volunteer Information Form
- 3 references
- Interview with the Pastor
- Completion of the Ministry Covenant Form
