What is Spirituality?

Spirituality is connecting ourselves with God, not only through prayer and meditation but finding God in all things – nature, sunsets, and by giving our unconditional help to others. Thoughts, words and actions that come from our hearts can be spiritual.

Various Ways to Spirituality

As Catholics, we strive to live our life through spiritual practice. These are a few of the many different ways one can express one’s spirituality through the Catholic faith:

Benedictine Spirituality – community life, order and obedience to superiors
Franciscan Spirituality – life of poverty, love of nature and charity
Dominican Spirituality – life of poverty and love of preaching and devotion to truth
Carmelite Spirituality – interior detachment, silence, solitude, desire for spiritual progress
Redemptorist Spirituality – follow Christ in his incarnation, death and resurrection
Ignatian Spirituality – examining one’s life, discerning will of God, living the resurrection
